ANTHRAX: 'A Skeleton In The Closet' Performance Clip From 'Chile On Hell' DVD

September 10, 2014 | Blabbermouth.net

Grammy-nominated thrash masters ANTHRAX will release "Chile On Hell", a live-in-concert DVD, on September 16. "Chile On Hell" was filmed at the Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile on May 10, 2013 and features ANTHRAX performing an extended set that featured songs from the band's entire catalogue.

"Chile On Hell" will be available on DVD and Blu-ray, was recorded in 5.1 Surround Sound, and will retail for $16.98.

The "A Skeleton In The Closet" performance clip from "Chile On Hell" can be seen below.

"Santiago was the perfect place to film the show for this," said ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante. "When we'd played there in the past, we'd finish our set, play our encore and go back to the dressing room. But every time, the fans would continue to scream and cheer and clap. I mean, they went on and on, they wouldn't stop. One time Scott [Ian, guitar] and I walked out to the side of the stage just to watch what was going on in the audience, it was intense. Why wouldn't we want to film a DVD in front of an audience like that?

"Plus," Benante continued, "the time was right to do this DVD… We wanted to finish on a high note. We didn't want to look back and regret that we didn't record the live show."

"Chile On Hell" was produced by Jay Ruston and filmed by City Drive Entertainment Group and DC3 Global. The DVD's cover art was designed by Stephen Thompson, who partnered with Benante to "redesign" the artwork from last year's "Anthems" EP.

In a recent interview with Kaaos TV, Ian stated about "Chile On Hell": "It's a very good representation of us live. I mean, you can never actually have the experience of being at a show when you're watching it in your living room or on your computer or wherever you watch these things, but for that kind of a representation of recording something and filming something and putting it out there for people to see, I think this is definitely the best representation that we've ever done — better than what we did in '87 or '92, 'Live Noize', or whenever that came out, and even better than 'Music Of Mass Destruction'. I think this really captures the energy of our show, and that's helped by the Chilean audience. It's a real privilege to play in front of people who are that crazy for heavy metal. That's why we chose to shoot it there — because we knew going in that it was going to be a great show. I just think it's a great representation, if anyone ever had a question of what it's like to see ANTHRAX live, now all they have to do is watch this DVD."

Shadows Fall Announce Final European Tour

August 26, 2014 | ShadowsFall.com

Massachusetts metal band Shadows Fall will embark on their final European tour in less than a week. The “Hell on Earth” tour will begin in Frankfurt, Germany on Aug. 29 and runs until Sept. 14. The tour also features Unearth, The Acacia Strain and War of Ages. The band has been touring non-stop for over a decade and has decided that it’s time to “take a hiatus” from future extensive touring. In addition to this upcoming European run, Shadows Fall are planning a final North American tour and will possibly visit a few other territories some time over the next year. We will post details once everything is locked in. There are many factors that are behind this difficult decision that the band has been dealing with for some time now. In a nutshell it comes down to families, member availability, and finances. Further impacting our decision is the fact that we have two members with young children. Plain and simple, they want to be with their families to watch their kids grow. Touring full time in a band these days has never been more difficult financially. When you have to ensure the future comfort of your family, difficult decisions have to be made. Another reason is the fact that our lead guitarist (Jon Donais) is now in Anthrax, which makes it hard for us to do any extensive touring with our full lineup. Due to his obligations with Anthrax, he will not be able to join us on this European tour. Felipe Roa will once again fill Jon’s position and we are thankful to him for joining us on this run. Also returning for this tour is original bassist Paul Romanko who has sat out from touring for the last two years to raise his son. This has been a real hard decision for all of us to make but we feel at this time this is the right thing to do. We don’t hate each other, we’re not bitter, we in fact still have a really great time together, but the ride has slowed down and it's time for the next chapters in our lives, whatever that may be. We can't thank the fans that have supported Shadows Fall since the beginning enough. Without you, none of this would have been possible. For the past decade and a half, we have been able to create the music we have always wanted to hear and share it with music fans everywhere. That being said, you still may see us at a festival or two over the next few years…if they ask, we will come! In the meantime please check out the dates for the last European go around and we will see you out there!

ANTHRAX Performs Entire 'Among The Living' Album At U.K.'s SONISPHERE: Full-Show Video Available

July 8, 2014 | Blabbermouth.net

ANTHRAX has played more Sonisphere festivals around Europe than any other band and was featured at Knebworth for every U.K. edition of the festival. But this summer, they went one better by performing not once, but twice at Knebworth. Not content with already playing on the Apollo stage on Saturday, July 5, they took advantage of a day off on the Friday, July 4 to give those in Bohemia a special treat, by stomping their way through their classic "Among The Living" album in full, in a sweaty, heaving tent.

Prior to taking the stage on Friday, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian told NME about the prospect of performing the entire "Among The Living" album: "We've done all the songs in a concert before, but we've broken it up. Like, we'done it side A, and then played a bunch of other stuff, and then side B and then do some encores. So we've done it in that context. But tonight we're only playing the nine songs off 'Among The Living', so it's the first time ever."

Regarding the recording process for "Among The Living", Scott said: "We had just come off the METALLICA tour in the fall of '86 when [METALLICA bassist] Cliff Burton was killed, and we had come off that tour obviously early because of the tragedy. And that's when we started recording that record, pretty much right after that. I feel like the energy just really jumps off that record; you fucking hear how pissed off we are playing our instruments on that record. There's a brutality on that album that you don't hear on the two records before 'Among The Living'. It was just the record of its time; it really was."

Fan-filmed video footage of ANTHRAX's July 4 performance of the entire "Among The Living" album at Sonisphere can be seen below.

Jon Working on New Solos for Next Anthrax Record

January 9, 2014 | Webmaster

Following the success of Anthrax's last album 'Worship Music' the band are in the middle of writing for the next album. On an interview with Metal Insider.net Scott Ian briefly mentions Jon is working on guitar solos for the new album. You can read the rest of Scott's interview here.

Scott Ian: ‘Jon Donais Is the Guitar Player in Anthrax’

August 14, 2013 | Loudwire.com

After the departure of Rob Caggiano in January, Anthrax were left without a lead guitarist, but the band quickly tapped Shadows Fall axeman Jonathan Donais to fill the void. Now, after a successful trek headlining the 2013 Metal Alliance tour and a bunch of international shows, Anthrax’s Scott Ian has publicly stated that Donais is the new full-time shredder for the band.

Shortly after Rob Caggiano left Anthrax, the guitarist became a full-time member of Volbeat while producing that band’s 2013 full-length album, ‘Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies.’ Donais jumped on board to fill the vacant spot in February, and after over six months in the band, it seems that Donais will be a permanent fixture in Anthrax.

“Jon’s been with us since February,” guitarist Scott Ian tells Metal Hammer Radio, and I think I can safely say he’s passed the audition. [Laughs] I know we haven’t said anything official yet, but in my mind, he’s the guy. I’m sure some type of official announcement… because in this world, people apparently need that kind of information so they can sleep well at night. But as far as I’m concerned, Jon is the guitar player in Anthrax.”

“I grew up on Anthrax, they’re the thrash scene, they’re one of the ‘Big Four,’ I’d be crazy to not want to play with them,” Donais stated earlier this year. “Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band , and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.”

Anthrax are currently finishing up a string of European festival tour dates with drummer Jon Dette filling in for Charlie Benante, who had to undergo carpal tunnel surgery. However, Benante is expected to play with Anthrax on Sept. 13 during the band’s opening slot for Iron Maiden in San Bernardino, Calif.
